The department handled 1973 calls for service in the month of April. While responding to those calls the patrols have been out trying to jump on some of the property maintenance issues that come with spring. High weeds and grass, abandoned cars, and other property types of concerns are being addressed. If there is a concern in your neighborhood please call or email us the address. We will take a look and then take the appropriate steps to get the property cleaned up. Please remember that there is a warning period property owners have before being issued a violation notice and then a list of properties on the schedule for the City to handle if the property owner fails to comply. The process is lengthy but unfortunately it is what it is. Obviously with the spring comes nicer weather. PLEASE remember to roll up your vehicle windows at night and lock the doors. People are out walking around a little more often and may be tempted to go into an open vehicle which is an easy target. We do see an increase during the spring and summer months. Right around the corner will be summer and a lot of residents will be going on vacation. The department offers a vacation watch for our residents. Call in or email the information to your residence with dates and times and we will check the exterior of your residence while your away. Lastly and as I said previously, there are more people walking our streets. That includes children playing and riding their bikes. PLEASE slow down and be mindful of this. Help us keep your neighborhood safe by slowing down and following the laws of the road. Have a great May and happy Mother's Day! |

The construction to Delaware Street is continuing and the longer it takes the more complaints come in. We are working hard to be as proactive as possible, but citizen input is always helpful. We all need to be patient for just a few more weeks. The department answered 2100 calls for service in the month of March. Our officers stopped 777 cars with a large majority within the construction and detour area. We had a major power outage on 4/4/11 at around 12:20am. Thank goodness it happen at that hour because we had a large amount of calls result from the outage. Traffic lights were out and alarms from residences and businesses were going off all over town. The patrols really ran. If it happen in the middle of the day traffic would have been horrible. We really are not sure what caused it but PSE&G responded and had the problem fixed in about three hours. With spring being here please make sure you keep up with your property maintenance. We do receive a lot of calls about high weeds and grass, abandoned cars and other quality of life issues now that people can enjoy the weather and are outside. Along with that, remember to roll up the windows of your vehicles and lock the doors. We see theft from vehicle complaints rise in the spring because windows are down and doors are unlocked. Don't become a victim. Keep in mind the kids are out playing too. Slow down in the neighborhoods and please come to a complete stop at stop signs. Help us avoid a tragedy. As always, if you have any problems or questions, please give me a call or send an email. Have a safe and happy April! |

I will begin this entry by saying we have had a very busy February. Our officers were responsible for answering 1783 calls for service. If you go to the information page you will be able to see what types of calls that encompasses. There are many other calls that are not listed on that page but it will give you an idea of what we are doing. We are ending the third week of construction on Delaware Street. The complaints are beginning to become more frequent. I assure you that we know the problems that are occurring and we are attempting to be as proactive as possible. It is no easy task considering the amount of traffic. Please call or email with questions or concerns. For those of you that read my blog and are landlords, we will be scheduling Landlord Licensing classes throughout the coming months. Please attend. Not only will you receive some very valuable information from Patrolman Pitzo, but you will be able to receive a discount on your registration fee. As soon as we have some dates I will post them. I cannot stress enough to call the station with any comments or concerns. This department is here to serve you and we will do our best to assist you in any way. |

2/16/11 As most of you are probably aware the construction on Delaware Street started today. They are currently working in front of the County Court House and will progressively work their way westbound. Let there be no mistake that we realize there are going to be some issues, but please contact me with questions or concerns and we will address each one. As a reminder, the 1st phase of this job is to replace laterals. The 2nd phase will begin sometime in April which will include complete street resurfacing. The department made a presentation to council on Monday evening to introduce our Landlord Licensing Class. The purpose of the class is to help the landlords and the tenants understand their rights and responsibilities. I will be posting the first class date in the very near future. Please contact me with questions, comments, or concerns. |

To begin, thank you groundhog! Tired of the snow anyone? The patrol people from the Department have been working very hard along with the City's Public Works Department to keep out streets safe. A bit of good news to pass along. The City has been able to find funding to repair Delaware Street. For anyone that travels the roadway that is a welcomed project. Along with that project residents and motorists will see some inconveniences. Traffic detours and road closures will occur. I have been assured by the City Engineer that the detour routes will be properly marked and with any luck, easily followed. Let there be no mistake that it will be inconvenient, however a little bit of inconvenience to improve that Street is going to welcomed by most. If you live or own a business on Delaware you will be notified the night prior to whether or not you will have access to your driveway. Once work starts the equipment cannot be moved so make sure you take the warning of the work crews and make the proper plans for the following day or you will be stuck. In conjunction with the City Engineer and Councilwoman Tierney, this Department will be sending out a letter that will give more project details but please do not hesitate to call or email me with questions. Please also check out our "Activity Page" to see what the Department has been doing. |
